hissuksiin tässä testailen miten keto/lowcarb-vaihtelu voisi toimia elämäntapana.
Mä olen käytännössä kokeillut tuota nyt toukokuussa nelisen vuotta, ja ainakin mulla se tuntuu vieläkin oikealta valinnalta. Treenit sen sijaan ovat olleet enemmän hakusessa, kun olen taiteillut tanssin, juoksun ja puntin välillä. Vasta viime keväänä sain itsestäni irti päätöksen keskittyä vain yhteen lajiin kerrallaan. Juoksun kanssa onnistuin ylitreenaamaan jalat ihan soseeksi, mutta on mahdoton sanoa olisiko niin käynyt vaikka olisinkin syönyt enemmän hiilareita. Punttitreeniin tämäntyyppiset syömiset taas sopivat ainakin mulla kuin nenä päähän.
Mä olen tuota rasvan osuutta ketolla miettinyt jo jonkin aikaa. Lyle tuossa ketokirjassaan on sitä mieltä, että sitten kun ketoosi on päällä, rasvan osuus ruokavaliossa ei vaikuta suoraan adaptaatioon. Mutta kun proteiinia ei saa olla liikaa, ja hiilariakaan ei voi olla määräänsä enempää, rasvaa tarvitaan nostamaan kalorit sellaiselle tasolle, että aineenvaihdunta ei hidastu liikaa. Ja lopulta niistä hiilareita ja proteiinista ei sinne dieettipohjaan ihan kamalasti tule energiaa. Nykyisin mulla on proteiinintarve n. 1-1,5g/painokilo-luokkaa, pärjäilen sillä ihan hyvin, ja ketodieetilläkin olen nähnyt sitten paremmaksi pitää hiilarit 40-50g tienoossa kuin syödä proteiinia pelkästään sokerintuotantoon.
Tällä hetkellä isoin ongelma tuntuu olevan rasvan mobilisointi dieetin siinä vaiheessa kun rasvaprosentti alittaa sen rajan missä viimeksi olen ollut. Luultavasti sama ongelma on kaikilla muillakin, mutta rasvapolttoisena se iskee päälle niin että sen huomaa.

It's important to point out that nitrogen balance depends heavily on total calorie intake (1) and this makes determination of true human protein requirements difficult (1a). Essentially, nitrogen balance in humans is determined both by nitrogen (protein) intake as well as total energy intake (1a). As calorie intake goes up, so does nitrogen balance (the body retains more protein); as calorie intake goes down, nitrogen balance falls as well (1a). This is one of the reasons that protein requirements go up when you are dieting and consuming fewer total calories. Individuals who eat more protein will lose more nitrogen as well, simply from the increased intake of nitrogen (2).
Early research suggested that carbohydrates were better at improving nitrogen balance than fats (4) but more recent research has not supported this idea (1a). At maintenance and higher intakes, dietary fat appears to be as effective, if not slightly more effective at improving nitrogen balance than carbohydrates (1a,4a).

During prolonged aerobic activity, amino acids can be used directly for energy, this is especially true of the branched chain amino acids (BCAAs); protein can provide 5-10% of the total energy yield during prolonged endurance training (10) and this is more pronounced when muscle glycogen is depleted (11).
Although amino acids will not be used for energy during weight training to a great degree, protein requirements are still increased to cover repair of damaged tissue along with the synthesis of new contractile proteins. Endurance athletes synthesize mitochondrial proteins in response to training as well

As well, Millward cites earlier research suggesting that regular training improves protein retention; that is, some research suggested that regular training might actually decrease protein requirements by improving the body's utilization of the protein that is ingested (15).
Related to this, even studies showing an initial negative nitrogen balance with training find that the body can re-achieve nitrogen balance in a few weeks (15a). It may be that increased protein intakes are only necessary when a new training program is begun, or when the current program is being intensified.
Millward has also pointed out that the rate of actual muscle gain is so trivially low, even with steroids, that the amount of protein required to support growth will actually be quite small (16). To put this in mathematical terms, assume that you were gaining 1 pound of muscle per week which, muscle magazine ads notwithstanding, would be excellent for a natural athlete. One pound of muscle contains about 100-120 grams of protein (the rest is water, glycogen and support for the contractile elements of the muscle mass). Divided over 7 days, that works out to 15-18 grams of protein extra per day over your daily requirements.
Of course, dietary protein isn't used with 100% efficiency. Even if it takes 3-5 times as much dietary protein to provide 15-18 grams of protein/day for growth, that's still only 45-90 grams of protein over maintenance requirements. Using the RDI above, a 200 lb athlete has a maintenance protein requirement of .36 g/lb or 72 grams of protein. If we add the 45-90 grams of protein that might be required to support a pound per week muscle gain, that's still only 117-162 grams of protein per day, which is .6-.8 grams per pound (very close to Dr. Lemon's 1991 recommendations).
